I absolutely hate this presumptuous, timeless, casual, throwaway word that implies that you’re a friend of the person you target this to. Why does no one get annoyed in the same way as calling a woman ‘love’ or ‘darling’?
It’s seemingly benign, chummy without being intrusive and creates a quick connection. But I find it cheap, disrespectful and lazy.
Bud is too Americanised, pal suggests you about to punch the other person in the face, friend is patronising, geeze is rather blokish but anyone calling me ‘mate’ is asking for a punch on the hooter and strong words. Stop it.

Re: Mate
That’s even worse to be fair. Some stupid woman kept calling me mate in 1988 and did that in a Jimmy Greaves way of talking too as in she’d say mate and then full on retard by adopting an estuary accent and say “it’s a funny old game, innit?”
Fuck off.
Fuck off.

Re: Mate
When women use it, their voice morphs into a horribly ostentatious version of how Adrian Durham says it. Animated, blokey, loud and over friendly. Males use it a little less obvious which makes it rather more palatable. IDK for all it’s worth.Sadact7 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 08, 2022 10:15 pmBy “women”, you mean “lesbians” right?Sid Pervcat wrote: ↑Thu Sep 08, 2022 3:03 pm It's not an exclusively male thing mate.

Re: Mate
My real mates don’t call me ‘mate’ they call me by my name. My forum mates call me ‘cunt’. I can live with that.antdad wrote: ↑Fri Sep 09, 2022 8:43 amWhat if an actual mate calls you mate, got any?kancutlawns wrote: ↑Thu Sep 08, 2022 12:53 pm I absolutely hate this presumptuous, timeless, casual, throwaway word that implies that you’re a friend of the person you target this to.
