Not going to be clinched tonight, Lancy limped into tomorrow.

Might have to rock up to Taunton to see the moment we get the title back. Although the forecast isn't great, don't fancy seven hours of waiting for the game to be rained off. Either way, plenty of excuses for a drink or two on Friday night.

Is there a Charity Shield equivalent in cricket?

No. The champion county plays an MCC team before the season starts but there's no match between the top two counties or the Championship v One Day/ T20 winners.

There used to be a world T20 club competition held in the autumn, which I think the winners and possibly runners up from the English T20 would get to compete in. Got dumped no doubt to make way for another franchise T20 event.

I know tennisman was more of a Middlesex or Sussex man, but it's a shame he is no longer posting on here to be able to read his reflections on Essex's success.

Worthy winners too. Another nice little cameo from Matty Parkinson for Lancy. Lad shows great promise.

Essex may have been celebrating too much since Friday.
