Anyone remember a long-lost but not missed TF member who used to regale us with his insight in getting into crypto? We were all mugs for not getting on board....
Lo and behold, even apart from the current US trial, people all over are being seriously burned by dabbling in what was mostly an updated pyramid scheme.
I listened to a R4 File on Four about people in a village called Winchmore Hill, Bucks, who got carried away with one crypto scheme and a number of them are now ruined. People who were saving to buy houses in a very expensive part of the world have lost all their savings.

I understand their hope for gain, especially given recent years, but do they have no common sense?
The guy they bought into had developed his own bitcoin, and impressed them with his fast cars, expensive holidays, and in particular a gala evening in a flash London venue where there were (imagine) models, dwarves, music, champagne and posh food, celebs, and where he gave a virtuoso bullshit performance. No one seemed to question where the alleged gains in bitcoin values came from ( the answer is, more mugs like you buying them).
No comeback. He gets away, of course, expressing regret. Back to his PEST EXTERMINATION business.

Yes. Apparently it was a "thing".
I am still gobsmacked by people parting with their savings because of being impressed by such an event.
Oh and there were, of course, ice sculptures and a Lamborghini on show.

He only lost £300,000. In search of more riches. Not deserving of much sympathy.

An investment manager????
There are 2 things here.
One is the scams around it. The other is that the whole crypto concept was fools gold anyway. Anyone who made big permanent gains did so at the expense of others losing.

I know of his HQ as it was based on an industrial estate I used to have to visit occasionally. Weirdest thing seeing this pest control business advertise killing vermin and Koda. I just thought they were sharing a building at first and then I saw the liveried vans.Sunbeam Alpine wrote: ↑Tue Oct 10, 2023 5:02 pm No comeback. He gets away, of course, expressing regret. The whole thing is weird.
Why would a bitcoin company need a liveried van?
