Well, to get to the Zoo in Berlin one has to ride the tube, called here the Unter Bahn......and the line the Zoo is on is called the U2.

:)

The U2 was a plane.

U2 nicked all their imagery from Joy Division.

The U2 is also an underground line in Berlin.....similiar to the Picadilly or the Central Line in London :(

This time last week i was exploring the azeville gun battery in Normandy as part of a holiday trip, including the concrete tunnels that linked them and housed the gun crews. It was quite a day, as me and Mrs blase had just come from Utah beach, and before that Ste. Mare Eglise.

According to the big girl, U2 take their name from the Dublin equivalent of the old UB40 registration form.

In the Republic when Bono and the boys were growing up it was called a U2.

Mr Wiki says: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U2
In March 1978, the group changed their name to "U2".[12] Steve Averill, a punk rock musician (with the Radiators) and family friend of Clayton's, had suggested six potential names from which the band chose "U2" for its ambiguity and open-ended interpretations, and because it was the name that they disliked the least.[13]
They were 17 and 18 at the time. A quick search shows a U2 form as some EU form about claiming dole if moving to another country: http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/mo ... he_eu.html

Only ever knew U-2 as the plane and Gary Powers.

ol’ Pet is currently vacationing in Berlin, Germany and one of the highlights of the trip was to see around the eponymous costruct.

Downfall is one of my all time favourite filums.

But it seems they have closed it down temprarily on account of neo-Nazi types making their visit into a pilgrimage :(

Downfall is a superb film Pet. I thought the area was just an anonymous car park these days?

It is.
It isn't temporarily closed, but permanently.
If going to Berlin, can 100% recommend the walking tours which originate by Zoo station. There's a choice of themes, eg Cold War , or Third Reich. I did the latter and it was brilliant.
Incidentally by Zoo there is one of the enormous towers they built to hold anti-aircraft guns, with civilian shelters underneath.

Yup, went to Munich in Summer 2008, Carlos. A lovely city and reasonably compact. The Opera House and the Cathedral and must see places. As is Neuwanstein Castle, it's towers over the countryside and the views are amazing. If scenery and culture is your game, go to pretty, picturebook Bavarian towns like Heidelberg, Regensburg and and Bayreuth. Love Bavaria and the Black Forest.
