196 - 4

Score draw at the end of day one. But hopefully enough to reign in some of the 5-0 doom mongers. Oz bowling surely ain't that scary and the England batting isn't just Cook and Root.

Anything over 300 and at least we are in the game. Plenty to stay up for tonight.

Decent start from England. 196/4 at the close.

I think we need 350, and I think we ought to get there. Plenty of batting in the tail.

At 194-4 it’s got all the makings of a 5 day Test

Watched the first hour or so. TV coverage was ok.

Decent start by England but what was of concern was Captain Root being strangled by the bowlers for 15 runs in 50 balls.
To win this series Root needs to play his normal game and attack their bowlers .The Aussies are scared of him in full flow.

That's probably the most sensible thing you've ever posted.

Do it more often.

Are Cook's best days behind him ? Must do better.

Less than 200 runs in 80 overs, proper test cricket.

We'll need to double that at least to be competitive, but at least we've put plenty of overs in their fast bowlers legs already, hopefully nearer to one or two of them breaking down

A fucking run out though

I think he is though. Warner is the archetypical Aussie bully. Bark loud at a perceived easy target and hope there’s no comeback because an Aussie can’t scrap like an Englishman. Difference now is that Root is older and wiser and Warner knows this...

Boycott just repeats the same two points again and again.

Mitchell sounds like every other woman from BBC radio.

Absolute garbage as a commentary pairing.

I gave it a go but turned the sound off after half an hour, utter bilge, and whoever told Swann that he is funny with great bantz skills needs their head kicking in.

TMS and muted pictures from now on.

Aussies are soft as shit, like northerners.
