JFK. I was 11 at the time, and still recall my sense of numbed disbelief.
It's probably impossible for anyone not alive then to realise the effect it had on us. Assassinations either happened hundreds of years before, or to South American strongmen, not in the USA, in the 20th century. One half expects it nowadays.

James Gandolfini.

Love The Sopranos.

Found it difficult at first to watch reruns following Gandolfini's death.

Still waiting for a definition of 'affected'.

Sobbing uncontrollably under the stairs?
Feeling sad?
Thinking, oh shit that's a drag?
etc.

Be good to hear how the deaths of these celebrities actually affected people. For me, getting the news that most people have died is sad news, although there are some which hasn't been, but unless I actually know someone, I don't actually get what I would call 'affected'. Maybe I'm a heartless, soulless cunt, but there is an awful lot of supposed grieving goes on which quite frankly is a load of bollocks imo.

Peter Cook, Auberon Waugh, Bernard Manning.

Three comic geniuses who genuinely didn't give a fuck who they offended.

The funniest things they did and said were often away from the limelight.

I used to love Auberon Waughs diary when I used to get Private Eye.
And though the Thorpe scandal was a bit before my Eye reading years - though I certainly remember the scandal and the thousand bad jokes it spawned - it was Waugh who coined the slogan, which I still use as it sums the fuckers up very succinctly - "Vote Liberal. Or we'll shoot your dog."
