The Official World Snooker Championship Thread(sponsored by Fatt Maude)

It's that time to knock balls together again. I'm rooting for Ronnie again to win his sixth title and tie with Steve Davis and Ray Reardon.
Four Chinese in the draw, and will Ding be a threat this year ? Judd Trump (no relation to Donald) is up against Rory.
Selby and O'Sullivan drawn to meet in the semis. "Honest" John Higgins is one of the oldest players in the draw at 41.

First Round draw:
Mark Selby (Eng) v Fergal O'Brien (Ire)
Ryan Day (Wal) v Xiao Guodong (Chn)
Neil Robertson (Aus) v Noppon Saengkham (Tha)
Marco Fu (HK) v Luca Brecel (Bel)
Shaun Murphy (Eng) v Yan Bingtao (Chn)
Ronnie O'Sullivan (Eng) v Gary Wilson (Eng)
Liang Wenbo (Chn) v Stuart Carrington (Eng)
Ding Junhui (Chn) v Zhou Yuelong

Stuart Bingham (Eng) v Peter Ebdon (Eng)
Kyren Wilson (Eng) v David Grace (Eng)
Mark Allen (NI) v Jimmy Robertson (Eng)
John Higgins (Sco) v Martin Gould (Eng)
Barry Hawkins (Eng) v Tom Ford (Eng)
Allister Carter (Eng) v Graeme Dott (Sco)
Anthony McGill (Sco) v Stephen Maguire (Sco)
Judd Trump (Eng) v Rory McLeod (Eng)

Twenty years or so ago I remember hearing that the game in Asia was growing fast and a future champion from that continent was inevitable in the coming years.

Well, it's probable taken longer than expected but the top end of that draw is certainly looking Asian heavy with five Chinese players, one Hong Konger and a Thai.

Having said that I'm going for Mark Selby to beat John Higgins 18-12 in the final.

Not sure what the odds would be of all the Oriental players being in the top half. :-k

Here we go again. The annual Throwing of the Toys out of the Pram Championships. And as per usual the clear favourite for the title is Ronnie 'The Rocket' O'Sullivan.

"Look Barry," Ronnie opined, "I’m done with all you [sic] and your board of people. And I’ve got a very good friend of mine who said, ‘Just let my lawyers deal with it.’ I won’t get involved with it because I’m not being bullied...".

Bullied, how so? Well, Ronnie's been acting the twat during interviews and Mr. Hernia et al sent him a letter asking him not to be a twat when being interviewed. Ronnie didn't like this and he's got the hump and he's still acting like a monosyllabic robot during interviews.

How one can tell the difference between him acting like a twat and actually being a twat has not yet been investigated.

Ronnie Guardian Article

PS.Stayed Tuned Fincho, I know how you feel about Snooker, but if Ronnie goes mad live on air, it'll be a magnificent. I just hope he doesn't attack Hazel Irvine because I quite like her.

I get the distinct impression Ronnie might go loopy when he starts missing pots and falling behind in matches. He looked miserable as sin in his last game against Chris Froome's brother.

Ronnie probably gets asked to be a rebel by Barry, to make snooker seems a little more exciting, get in some more headlines. Alex Higgins was on the front pages in the old days.

It needs something. Snooker players today have the charisma of a Carphone Warehouse shop worker.
Even Ray Reardon has said players should entertain the crowd as well as win.
We need more Virgos doing wacky impressions , and interaction with the crowd . Bring back the booze and ciggies .
It is worth it if it gives them a personality.
Ding is in good form with the top two highest breaks of 136 and 132 .
Stuart Carrington scored three consecutive centuries.

Best match so far is easily Fu v Brecel

It's a shame snooker needs to go all tabloid to get the ratings when we have matches like this.

Judd trump has been knocked out. My tip is Neil Robertson for people that like a bet. He's just made his 500th century of his career

Stuart Bingham posts the highest break so far with 137 but a small consolation for losing the match to Kyren Wilson who reaches his first
World quarter-final.
