The House is currently debating the repeal of the Affordable Care Act.

The ACA has led to 20m US citizens having access to healthcare, when they were previously excluded from insurance ( due to its cost, or because of a precondition) and did not qualify for Medicaid or Medicare.

It has had its problems, and probably with Clinton as POTUS it would have been reformed in the next couple of years.

So now the richest nation on earth is taking conscious steps to return 20m of its people to being without healthcare, and reassure the bloated health care, pharmaceutical and insurance institutions that they can look forward to more years of extreme profitability.

The US spends twice as much as a % of GDP on healthcare as we do. One of the outcomes from that SHOULD be increased life expectancy but in fact the US is not even in the top ten.

This is the care for the common man which Trump spoke so much about? This is the confrontation of the establishment, is it? No, it is the reward for an elite. This president must be the greatest con in political history.

The whole medical care industry needs total reform everywhere as it's the least value for money expenditure after foreign aid.

And there's nothing wrong with medical insurance. It's the only way I'll get it in non EU countries. It should be rudimentary over here but our wet leaders think the world is entitled to free care.

The Yank situation is not ideal but better than our bottomless pit approach.

Why not listen to what one of its chief architects said about it?

Designed to fail. Ramp up prices and incompetence to such a degree that anything was preferrable, even a single payer NHS system to be ushered in quietly by the forthcoming Clinton administration, which was another Democratic wonderplan that went tits up.

I was only 'Obamacare' until the bills and renewal quotes started popping through letterboxes and it was apparent that it was as popular as dogshit in an ice cream cone. It was then that the Holy One's name was not to be associated with it by the media.

Pouring more money in to healthcare isn't much good when such a high percentage of Americans abuse their bodies. Have you seen what many of them stick down their throats over there. It's a wonder they are in the top 100 let alone 10.

The state should mop up for the stuff the insurance companies won't cover for sure but within reason. As far as causing the bankruptcy , you'll find any state payment that's not fulfilled in this country is equally bad. Try failing to pay a parking ticket and see how it escalates so it's a non comparison.

The NHS and all medical care is grossly over priced and/or subject to spivs and rip off merchants taking it over. That's what really needs addressing.

The people raving about medical insurance will only appreciate how crap it is when they have no other choice but to use it.

Health care is a huge scam. Billions a year made. Cheap stuff sold dear.

I can solve the problem for Trump.... it is very simple and would not require insurance.

If you get sick the government buys a return economy ticket to the UK.
When they arrive they just need to head to the nearest NHS hospital to get treatment.
Problem solved.

That's how insurance works isn't it, you wouldn't exoect to get fully comp insurance on a battered up Ferrari when you had a string of drink driving convictions would you?
