Re: Jeremy Corbyn
The character assassinations from the PLP and the media from day one have helped to paint a skewed picture.

The choice isn't sink with Corbyn or just ape the Tories is it.The Tick wrote:So Labour should just ape the Tories? That's the only way?
They did that under Blair, and we got the Iraq War, and a widening of the gap between rich and poor. Which is why the working class abandoned Labour well before Corbyn became leader.
Tony Blair can't be blamed for the decline in support for Labour that's happened in the last 10 months while Corbyn's been leader. Tony Blair left office nearly 10 years ago.

Sadly, it probably is, Tick. The Tick wrote:So Labour should just ape the Tories? That's the only way?
Blair aped the Tories & Cameron aped Blair.
Apart from 1979-90, every post-war government has more or less occupied the centre ground

Re: Jeremy Corbyn
For all their faults, the Conservatives realised when they were looking down the barrel in the last decade and got through a number of leaders before getting back into power. Labour under Corbyn don't want to do this and are firmly stuck in a rut.

The current PLP deserve that honour. Labour still did ok in council elections and got London mayoralty. So much for Corbyn being a voter repellent spray.Ralph wrote:The choice isn't sink with Corbyn or just ape the Tories is it.The Tick wrote:So Labour should just ape the Tories? That's the only way?

But Blair's legacy can not be ignored either. It's why many were leaving Labour already.

For the moment they're happy in their rut, talking to themselves & not even trying to win back power. Hopefully at some point that'll change.kancutlawns wrote:For all their faults, the Conservatives realised when they were looking down the barrel in the last decade and got through a number of leaders before getting back into power. The Tories in their lust for power pandered to a non-centrist voting bloc, and had the 2008 economic crisis to hit labour with.kancutlawns wrote:For all their faults, the Conservatives realised when they were looking down the barrel in the last decade and got through a number of leaders before getting back into power. According to all the polls in 2008-09, Cameron was a dead cert for an outright majority in 2010.The Tick wrote:The Tories in their lust for power pandered to a non-centrist voting bloc, and had the 2008 economic crisis to hit labour with.kancutlawns wrote:For all their faults, the Conservatives realised when they were looking down the barrel in the last decade and got through a number of leaders before getting back into power. They didn't do OK in the council elections. They did worse than Ed Miliband did in the equivalent election 5 years earlier. They also lost ground in Wales & finished third behind the Tories in Scotland. The Tick wrote:The current PLP deserve that honour. Labour still did ok in council elections and got London mayoralty. Re: Jeremy Corbyn
What is the answer then, Tick & Ralph?
Do want to see a new party break away or are you happy to leave Corbyn in charge (assuming he wins in September) & wait for the hapless Ms May to fuck things up, which she inevitably will?

The latter for me, if the PLP stop trying to destabilise things.Steve Hunt wrote:What is the answer then, Tick & Ralph?

Re: Jeremy Corbyn
I think trying to set up a new party is a stupid idea. If Corbyn wins Labour will just have to stagger on to the next election & hope to mitigate some of the damage.Steve Hunt wrote:What is the answer then, Tick & Ralph?

Corbyn ballot challenge rejected. He can re-stand as leader in September.
