During the Brexit campaign the hated, by some, BBC went to a town in the Midland with a very high population of sub continental heritage, they interviewed several residents about whether there was too much immigration into the country, the majority of them said there was, and that majority were of sub continental heritage, indeed, some of them spoke with pronounced accents showing that they themselves were immigrants.

No Birdie, the ECHR has been weaponised by the usual suspects as being a significant problem wrapped in nationhood which it isn't if the stats below are anything to go by...

"Since 2017, the Court has received 660 requests for interim measures in UK cases, of which it granted 15, i.e. it granted around 2% of requests, or an average of two per year. In 2023, the Court issued only one Rule 39 order against the UK, concerning an individual’s expulsion to the United States."

Given the amount of airtime it gets as a topic, that is a surprise.
I suspect the cost of living and housing are greater causes of anxiety.
I recall that there used to be some study which asked peoples' most greatest issues. Up to 2015 our belonging to the EU had never reached the top ten of peoples' concerns but a year later over 17m voted to leave it.
Just demonstrates how people can be manipulated.

The signing of the good friday agreement came at stage 1. So your argument is void.

The Good Friday Agreement was signed today in 1998 then ratified by the vote later in May so the referendum was post rather than pre-legislative unlike the shit show of the Brexit vote say.
