Labour has a demographics issue, if you look at the age of the places they have lost a lot of the younger voters have simply moved away to where the housing and jobs are. Making Labour very strong in cities and weak elsewhere.Holden Mcgroyne wrote: ↑Sat May 08, 2021 10:03 am
Couple of problems though. Labour started the fightback under Blair with 50 seats in Scotland, they've gone. The new leader, Anas Sarwar cuts a really impressive figure, but I can't see a way back there. There's always been a far left faction, Tribune group in days gone by, who were always a noisy rump but without the numbers to really effect policy. They became the mainstream under Corbyn and they're not intending to be sidelined again anytime soon.

Re: Any Labour voters on here?
Starmer has not read the signs.
Johnson has persuaded the working class to vote against its best interests. Starmer can't change that with logic, because it's not logical.
But at the same time he has failed to spot the millions of non-traditional Labour supporters who would go with him if he had the courage to speak about rejoining the EU. A massive majority of polls for the last two years show the desire to return substantially in the majority and those people have no natural home. It's ironic because it's what Starmer really wants.
Eventually others will realise they have been duped but that won't happen in time for Starmer.

Maybe if British politics got over its fetish for the 'working class' it would be a good start.Hillman avenger wrote: ↑Sat May 08, 2021 3:57 pm Starmer has not read the signs.

Labour get annihilated in a General election for procrastinating on Brexit. They get absolutely spanked for putting up a pro EU candidate in an area where 70% voted to leave, but the answer is to apply to rejoin the EU

The working class as a mining or manufacturing worker base thats unionised doesn't exist.Vespa wrote: ↑Sat May 08, 2021 4:27 pmMaybe if British politics got over its fetish for the 'working class' it would be a good start.Hillman avenger wrote: ↑Sat May 08, 2021 3:57 pm Starmer has not read the signs.

The working poor and the non-working poor are set against each other, with foreign workers not part of the union tradition means that those of working class origins fond themselves bereft of a straight forward politically representative organisation.
The tories patronising the working class as a monolithic nationalist entity is working for now particularly outside of the big cities.
In reality we have an english nationalist voting bloc going tory regardless of class origin. Its identity politics that pretends to be otherwise.

Had high hopes for Starmer when he was elected Labour leader, I thought he's make a fist of heading up the opposition, but unfortunately he's been a bit of a damp squib.

Agreed. Though to Vespa, the fetish for the 'working class' and the class system in general will continue for decades. Too inbuilt and the idea of a socalled meritocracy that doesn't exist doesn't help. Some exceptions, but know your place, and the working class made good turned self-centred cunts will always be a problem. The Tick wrote: ↑Sat May 08, 2021 4:50 pmThe working class as a mining or manufacturing worker base thats unionised doesn't exist.Vespa wrote: ↑Sat May 08, 2021 4:27 pmMaybe if British politics got over its fetish for the 'working class' it would be a good start.Hillman avenger wrote: ↑Sat May 08, 2021 3:57 pm Starmer has not read the signs.

Ditto as said before. No excuses, but was fucked anyway in a Pandemic. Maybe if things settle, 2022 onwards time to see his mettle.

Agree on condescending, but that's how it is and will be for a long while. IMO.Vespa wrote: ↑Sat May 08, 2021 6:02 pmIt's condescending and paternalistic.Carlos J wrote: ↑Sat May 08, 2021 6:00 pm
