Israel may not have wanted this war at this time, but the events played right into Israels hands and just brought forward the action which, rest assured, they would have taken anyway sooner rather than later.

I'm no expert either but I guess they're trying to ensure that an enemy , who have said that there'll be repeats of October 7th many times over and they will not stop until the total destruction of Israel is complete , no longer have the capacity to carry out those threats .

Despite the heaviest military bombardment ever of such a small area over such a long period of time, Israel keeps saying that they haven't defeated hamas. The Israeli army are either useless or are just prolonging things to complete their ethnic cleansing operation.
