you misunderstand

much like now, these engineered wars are about control and greed

the people, or pawns that were manipulated and misled to make the ultimate sacrifice...

it's about them
It isn't. It's about what they died for I.e the greed of their nation.

I've already proposed that this charade be replaced by a day to commemorate all victims of war, regardless of time, location or whether the dead were civilian or military.

What a bizarre viewpoint. It isn't a 'charade.' How on Earth did you cook up that idea? Armistice Day and the poppy were established to commemorate the war dead as well as British and Commonwealth men and women fighting in current conflicts. They don't glorify war nor bloodthirsty nations.

We're continually badgered with the emotional blackmail to support the military unquestioningly.
I agree with this part actually.

Manipulating the public into blanket support for “our boys” is a good way to doublethink them into supporting whatever actions (for better or worse) they are sent to carry out.

In the eyes of the flag waving masses, questioning the actions of the British armed forces becomes a tacit indifference to the deaths of young servicemen.

I probably said this before on this site, but my parents' generation lived through WWII and, trust me, they'd have been mortified with embarrassment if anyone had called them heroes. They thought that everyone did their bit, and it was considered bad form to big yourself up.

It seems to me that the fewer people who are actually in the Armed Services the more everyone else gets soppy and sentimental about those who are.
Some of them, I'm convinced, think that wanking on about poppies somehow makes them the same as front-line soldiers :-)

I’ve seen it. Fucking mental isn’t it?

Go to any live public event and there’s a good chance the poor sods will all be made to stand up at some point to take the creepy adoration of men in vests and baseball caps with eagles on them.

As a side note, I love to see any American man dressed in a ludicrously patriotic t-shirt. It’s an absolute joy :D
