My 42 year-old daughter was found dead 4 years ago. Her body gave up.

After about six years battling with alcohol, losing jobs, not looking after herself...

I gave a few talks at the request of local charities about how substance abuse is not just the people lying in shop doorways. It can affect those you love, even when it seems to others that she had the world at her feet ( for example a first-class honours degree).

Someone asked me "Did she commit suicide? " and initially I said "no". But after a moment I added "Perhaps she did. But it took a couple of years".

I used to work with twins, Rob and Ray, back in the early 80s. Rob died from leukemia and a few weeks later Ray killed himself by self-immolation. I only knew them briefly and only on a work level, but the fact that 40 years on I still think about them, particularly Ray, shows what impact suicide has. God knows how much more intense it is for the family and close friends.

Sad tales, Sunbeam and Arty. :(
Maybe she's born with it, maybe it's Maybelline.

I'm genuinely sorry for your loss, Hillman. Sad tales indeed.

I want to leave this life on my own terms. Suicide is a good option and I’m sure that some people would be extremely happy for me to do such a thing.

I don’t want to go in an accident or “old age”. Just on my own terms at a time I’m ready. Could be tonight could be next year. There’s a tranquility to that knowledge.

Nobody would be happy for you to do such as thing.

There are lots of options, and hopefully, you feel stronger.

You shouldn't place much stock in how we here interact. It is in no way an authentic assessment of character and value.
Indeed if it was I might have felt the same as you.

What certain people think of me matters to me, the rest is noise.
