My Dualit 6 slice has finally (nearly) died after about thirty years, can't complain as I found it in a skip as a student when it just needed a fuse. One remaining slot left working after years and years of abuse, I might and could still fix it but I no longer need more than a two slice machine.
Whose has a dog's jangles of a machine/recommendation I could be tempted by?

We have this one.

Personally, I think it's overengineered for something that burns bread, but it makes nice toast.

I'm a basic Russell Hobbs man for kitchen equipment. Does what it says on the tin. Will only pay big money for big value.
My son-in-law swans around in a Hublot watch worth nearly five grand, and my Sekonda costing 25 notes hasn't gained or lost one second in around 3 years. I just want to check the time, not be beamed up to Pluto.

Apples and pears Zambo, you prefer function above all but perhaps your daughter didn't.
I have something similar that was bought as a pressie, it's functional jewellery afaic so I'll wear it out or used to about ten times a year but I can't say I'm always that comfortable doing so. Like shoes I have a few for different occasions as they are and can be a style as well as a status statement, atm my favorite is a well made Japanese tribute (fake) piece that has been made to look like a watch twenty times it's value.
What does that say, I'm cheap or sensible?
