Car Insurance For Teenagers

Post by Steve Hunt »

Firstly, apologies. I've put this in Pande because no fucker looks at Open Chat (where it really should go).

Just wondering if any of you would have any advice.

My 17 year old daughter has started to learn to drive. Her sister is only a year younger and will be able to learn later this year as well.
I had planned to get a 'pool car', something both of them can share until they fly the nest, probably 1000cc or under, five or six years old. Something like a Fiesta, Fiat 500 or Ka.

My question is regarding bloody insurance. What's the best way to do it? Put the car in my or my Wife's name and add them as named drivers? Or is there a better, more economical way of doing this?

Yeah I was surprised, but I've got this waitress who works for me, and shes just passed her test, 17 like your daughters and she's leasing a Vauxhall corsa as from next week, because it'll work out cheaper because of the free insurance. They'll be putting a black box in it as well.

I think insurers will do it because new cars are the safest for young uns.

Food for thought. Cheers Easty, I've got two girls late teens learning to drive. Will look into that.

Went down this road but could never find anything that didn’t stipulate at least 21.
A quick online look at current Corsa offers isn’t showing any advance on that.
Odd.
Can’t be arsed.

Try insurance company 'ingenie', they specialise in young drivers. My lad passed his test this time last year just turned 18 .We got him a 14 reg Corsa 1.2 ( I know spoilt get),his insurance cost £1218 for his first year,he has just got his renewal,£842. He has done all Go compare stuff and no one comes near those prices.
Now,the only thing is Ingenie insist on fitting the 'black box' which moniters their driving and txt a monthly report.Personally i think thats a good thing.

Blame the boy racers of the 80s for the bad rep. Those old XR3i kids and souped-up Golf GTis .
They started all that silly spoilers on the boot and aerofoil fins in the wiper arms, with silly stick-on graphics.
6uild 6ack 6etter .
You will own nothing and be happy.
