Why is modern music so shite?

As there is less money in the music industry record companies will only promote artists with mainstream appeal . You can only make money from filling out arenas so the independent labels will die out along with the small music venues

Independent labels are thriving - you just need to be more inventive, but you can interact much more directly with your audience in the internet age. It's so much easier to distribute products digitally. The amount of music out there has expanded exponentially - the harder part as a consumer is finding the good stuff (or stuff that interests you) when there is so much new music available.

Just listened to the first two Buffalo Springfield albums properly for the first time.

At least half of each is very good.

Yeah. Dusty in Memphis is a great album ('I Don't Want To Hear It Anymore' is sublime).

Some of her earlier ones are pretty damn good too. The production on her Phillips singles such as 'I Close My Eyes and Count to Ten' is fantastic.
