Target of 107 to win the match and series. If England don't reach that , they should all be shot on the pitch.

Best I've seen him bowl, although the pitch was very accommodating. The three innings scores point to another dodgy test track. The only decent one this season has been at Edgbaston.

A second division track for a second division team. Headingley gave us the best test match.

More evidence that you know SWA about cricket as well as tennis.

Warwickshire have been a disgrace this season and heads should roll, but their square is one of the best. Headingley, is a clag heap and has always been known as a bowlers paradise.

Beating a poor side like WI, will gain lead to the masking of some woeful inadequacies in the England side. The usual know nothinks will jump up and down in delight at the victory, and tell us you can't change a winning side and this is the one who should be picked for the next test match.

New captain takes over - wins both summer test series, shows reasonable skills as a leader, and as a bonus his batting form hasn't suffered. England have a good range of seam bowling options - those picked in this squad, plus the likes of Jake Ball and Mark Wood. We have the strongest middle/lower middle batting order in the world and at least 5 quality test class batsman in our side (Cook, Root, Stokes, Bairstow, Ali).

If we'd lost to SA or lost to WIs and Root had lost form with the bat, England could've headed to Australia in disarray. As it is, clearly the team morale is high and Root has moved seamlessly into his new role.

On the negative side, we still have gaps in the top order batting and would benefit from the services of a top class spin bowler. Measure us up against Australia and both sides have similar problems, primarily in the top order batting. (Handscomb, Maxwell, Cartwright, Wade, Khwaja are all unproven, Renshaw inexperienced).

I'd say we have the edge in depth of batting, they have better bowlers. But currently Hazlewood, Starc and Pattinson are all injured and it's hard to see them not losing some of their key pacemen for all or part of the ashes series. Which adds up to a potentially well matched series.

But for now, Root has captained England to two test series victories out of two and that is worth celebrating.

All those "characters" will have to leave their "hilarious" fancy-dress costumes unpacked tomorrow. How very upsetting for them not to be able to prance around in front of the cameras ... I mean not to be able to watch the cricket.
