Honestly, Lawns, that doesn't matter. You don't have to be a prolific reader. If you don't fancy buying a new copy, try Abe Books. There might be a free e-version online, too.kancutlawns wrote: ↑Thu Mar 16, 2023 6:30 pm I wouldn’t mind joining but haven’t been a prolific reader for many a long year. That's good. Were you a member of your local library prior to reserving it?Carlos J wrote: ↑Sat Mar 18, 2023 1:55 amReserved a copy.from the library, picking it up this week.lambrini wrote: ↑Fri Mar 17, 2023 6:27 pmHonestly, Lawns, that doesn't matter. Oh yeah, been a member since moving here though don't use it as much as should, but always seems busy when in there. They built a nice new one for the millennium, other things there as well as the library:lambrini wrote: ↑Sat Mar 18, 2023 1:38 pmThat's good. Re: Currently Reading
Into the the second chapter now of Kafka's The Trial which is the cross-examination.
Got through more of the book in the first few days than I thought I would and it's my kind of story about a dystopian scenario where excessive bureaucracy can be used a tool to control the masses in a totalitarian society and has a lot of relevance to today. But heavy going with the amount of precise detail, some of which is superfluous yet it's intriguing to see what happens next. Can't really binge read this, needs to be read in small segments at a time but it is rather pertinent in how someone can be put under arrest and not know the reasons why.

I haven't started it yet, guize! Been so busy, plus distracted with another book atm. I'll have more time over Easter.

Re: Currently Reading
Walter Lord's A Night to Remember is one of the saddest books I've ever read. At the time, the sinking of the Titanic changed the western world in the same way 9/11 certainly altered ours. People suddenly woke up from a cultural stupor. Socialism and eating the rich seemed justified after that tragic night.
English stoicism and chivalry dissappeared.
Sad. Not an easy read by any means but a necessary one.
