You're right an absolute shambles, but Bercow did absolutely everything he could to derail it, based on personal grudges, opinion, and because he liked the limelight, hero status, and attention from Remainers.

Strikes in France are nothing new, and they're a healthy demonstration of how people there aren't willing to accept government misrule like their British counterparts are.
Plus the cost of living crisis is nowhere near as bad there as it is in the UK. Another benefit of remaining in the EU.
